Fun times at the New York Comic Con

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Had a great time at the New York Comic Con! I wanted to share a piece I did for Tim, who was kind enough to send a scan.

Next up is the Long Beach Comic Con. I’ll only be there for Saturday, but I’m looking forward to it!

Finished my Munny! His name is Manny.

I did it!!

So we left off with it mostly done except for eyebrows, mouth and boot/glove highlights. You didn’t miss much.

What made my heart stop was this last step…the SPLATTER!

He’s pretending he’s not into it, but I can tell he’s excited.

At least the kitchen will be spared.

Okay READY, SET…..GO!!

Another one of Manny’s experiments gone awry. Back to the drawing board for him, and to the New York Comic Con (Artist Alley table A-7) for me!

Day Two Munny Update

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Here’s the promised update to yesterday’s post. So far only one hiccup.

I started with the skin tone areas. I used a sponge brush for this part, and mostly Liquitex acrylic paint for the whole thing.

The skin tone came out smooth enough.

The next part was the white coat and pants. Here’s where the little hiccup happened. The paint was super streaky this time around.

Throw some fixin’s over it and maybe it won’t be so bad.

and the behind…

After wrestling with the streaks, I was pleasantly surprised with this free acrylic paint I was given at the San Diego Comic Con this year. If you’re interested it’s called Holbein liquid acrylic color- Aeroflash. It was almost inky but not too runny.

I still have a short list of things to do to this before it’s officially done. I’m looking forward to that post!

Hopefully I won’t drop an arm in paint before I’m done.

Do What?? I’m In!

I’m at the start of another project I know nothing about (see Watchmen: Grump Style).

My plan is to have it done for the New York Comic Con this weekend. Wish me luck.

Step one: Open the box.

Check!

Time to plan that stuff out with handy included figure-it-out sheets (I actually printed bigger ones).

Add Sculpey? Sure, why not. Happen to have some handy.

The internets said to score the vinyl and that it was okay to bake.

This is where I hold my breath. Please don’t melt!

Thankfully the internets were right.

Now it’s time to let it cool. It’s looking pretty unimpressive for the moment.

I’ll update this post tomorrow with more Munny goodness.

New York Comic Con: Grump Appreciation Packs!

Friday, October 1st, 2010

My favorite convention tradition. Free Grump Appreciation Packs! One mini-print, a couple stickers, a magnet, a free original sketch and tons of love will be included in each one.

To get one of these fine packs all you have to do is let me know you’re coming! So many ways to do this. You can comment on this here blog, twitter me @Midimew, message me on DeviantART or a good old fashioned email to bethsoteloinfo@gmail.com. Come see me in Artist Alley and I will have it waiting for you!

This year, NYCC Oct. 8~10, I’ll be sharing table A-7 in Artist Alley with Joel Gomez. Come say hello even if you hate free stuff.

See you at the show!
