Sharing Comics with Kids

September 22nd, 2011

Joel and I had a good time sharing comics, and how they are made, with a great group of kids home schooled in the San Diego area. I hope they all continue to experiment with their art for years to come.

A big thank you to Socal Comics and New Comix for their comic book donations. They were very much appreciated!

Visitor Day

August 26th, 2011

I wanted to make a quick 3 page story for Grump, Manny and Periwinkle. The three of them plan to warn their Time Traveling selves who are about to visit.

San Francisco WonderCon April 1~3

March 29th, 2011

Manny and Peri are both ready for the San Francisco WonderCon.

I’ll be there as well, handing out these fine stickers FREE at the Aspen Comics booth. Come by and say hello :)

DUCK!

Be thankful you’re on her side! Better help keep her dirty snowballs stocked. She’s not a good loser.

Black Cat & Satana Digital Comic

November 3rd, 2010

I colored an 11 page Black Cat & Satana story a while back and wanted to share the link to the Digital Comic 4 page preview online. Have a peek here http://bit.ly/ctaRPJ

Manny told me who to vote for

November 2nd, 2010

I had little excuse not to vote. The place is right behind my house. Colonel Mustard granted me a whole 9 minutes 20 seconds leave of absence to do so. He cried most of those minutes (I set the webcam to record while I was gone) and then topped it off with a protest sit on my keyboard. Demanding Dachshund.

Thank you Long Beach Comic Con :)

November 1st, 2010

It was nice to catch up with all of you at the Long Beach Comic Con. Saw plenty of familiar faces that I would have loved to hand a Grump Appreciation Pack to had I known they would be there.

The next convention I will be attending is the San Francisco WonderCon April 1~3.  Grump wants to give you a picture of himself to take home with you. It’s a long ways away, but I’ll make sure to ask for Grump Pack requests when it’s WonderCon time.

Now, back to coloring the last issue of Soulfire Vol. 2

Fun times at the New York Comic Con

October 13th, 2010

Had a great time at the New York Comic Con! I wanted to share a piece I did for Tim, who was kind enough to send a scan.

Next up is the Long Beach Comic Con. I’ll only be there for Saturday, but I’m looking forward to it!

Finished my Munny! His name is Manny.

October 6th, 2010

I did it!!

So we left off with it mostly done except for eyebrows, mouth and boot/glove highlights. You didn’t miss much.

What made my heart stop was this last step…the SPLATTER!

He’s pretending he’s not into it, but I can tell he’s excited.

At least the kitchen will be spared.

Okay READY, SET…..GO!!

Another one of Manny’s experiments gone awry. Back to the drawing board for him, and to the New York Comic Con (Artist Alley table A-7) for me!

Bonus pic!

Day Two Munny Update

October 5th, 2010

Here’s the promised update to yesterday’s post. So far only one hiccup.

I started with the skin tone areas. I used a sponge brush for this part, and mostly Liquitex acrylic paint for the whole thing.

The skin tone came out smooth enough.

The next part was the white coat and pants. Here’s where the little hiccup happened. The paint was super streaky this time around.

Throw some fixin’s over it and maybe it won’t be so bad.

and the behind…

After wrestling with the streaks, I was pleasantly surprised with this free acrylic paint I was given at the San Diego Comic Con this year. If you’re interested it’s called Holbein liquid acrylic color- Aeroflash. It was almost inky but not too runny.

I still have a short list of things to do to this before it’s officially done. I’m looking forward to that post!

Hopefully I won’t drop an arm in paint before I’m done.
